Why the Big One Goes Unused
A full-size jar needs a minimum volume to work at all. Blades sit at the bottom of a wide jar, and a single portion sits below them, spinning around rather than being drawn in.
That means making one smoothie in a large blender either fails or requires adding liquid you did not want, which produces a thinner drink than intended.
Cleaning is the other half. A large jar, lid, and blade assembly to wash for one drink is a poor trade, and it is why the small one keeps winning.

Alongside size, what the jar is made of affects how a blender behaves day to day.
Plastic is light, will not shatter, and scratches over time, which clouds it and makes it look worse than it performs. It also picks up smells from garlic and onion.
Glass is heavier and does not stain or scratch, and it can crack from thermal shock if you pour boiling liquid into a cold jar.
Stainless is effectively indestructible and you cannot see what is happening inside, which matters more than it sounds when you are judging whether something is blended.

The catch is storage, since you still have both attachments to keep somewhere, and cupboard space is frequently the actual constraint rather than counter space.
